Best Juicers & Juicer Buying Guide

By Katy Cowley / 3 years ago

Eating whole fruits might be the best way to get your nutrients but everybody loves fruit juice and making your own is certainly healthy than buying it from the store. The right juicer won't just make it possible for you to make great juice, it will make it irresistible. Even better, you can keep the right machine for decades with proper care.

Of course, you'll need to find the right machine first, which is why we've compiled reviews of the very best juicers currently on the market.

What should you look for in your ideal juicer?

There are so many different kinds of juicers available with such a wide range of features that choosing the right one can be overwhelming. Still, this wide range of juicers means that you really can find a juicer that meets your needs perfectly.

Because there are so many options available you should start by defining what you need your juicer to do:

  • Are you going to use it every day or even more than once a day? If so you'll want a sturdy, durable model with an excellent warranty. Centrifugal juicers are usually the best for this kind of heavy usage and generally cost around $150. If you're only going to be using it once a week or less you can safely go for a cheaper model.
  • Clean up. Some juicers can be incredibly difficult to clean properly and it isn't safe to assume that a more expensive machine will be easier to clean up. Twin gear juicers, often extremely expensive machines, are supremely difficult to clean. Even cleaning the filters is a time consuming process. If you're going to be cleaning your machine every day you'll want to avoid these machines.
  • The health factor is an important consideration. If you really want to maximize the positive impact on your health and get the highest nutritional value you're going to have to consider the higher priced juicers. The juicers with the slowest speed produce the highest nutritional value. These can get quite expensive but they can also be a worthwhile investment if your main concern is improving your health.
Best Juicer Reviews
Breville 800JEXL

Featuring Nutri Disc and a unique extraction system, the Breville 800JEXL is excellent at safeguarding the nutrients so commonly destroyed by low-quality juicers. It does this partially by maintaining the temperature the ingredients are at when they're put in the juicer. This also helps provide a better flavour than what you would get from many lower quality juicers.

The feeding tube also features a unique design, centered directly on top of the shredding wheel. This allows ingredients to be entered through the side as well as the top, increasing the juicing power of the shredding wheels. An extra wide chute can even accommodate sprouts and leafy vegetables at the same time.

One of the best features of the Breville 800JEXL is that it actually functions at two different speeds. One speed is for softer vegetables and fruit and the other speed is specifically for harder vegetables. Even better, the Breville 800JEXL senses what food is dropped into it and automatically chooses the appropriate speed.

Juicing at such low speeds can cause juice to leak out of the filter bowl surroundings but Breville has already thought about this problem. The Breville 800JEXL counters the issue with a food pusher that ensures all the ingredients continue going down through the shredder wheels until the process is completed.

All in all, this is an excellent machine and well worth every cent. If you can make room in your budget for this juicer you will not be disappointed.

Hurom Hu-100

The Hurom Hu-100 takes the concept of the auger based juicer to new heights. It processes vegetables, fruits, wheatgrass and even soy with a higher efficiency level by using a slower juicing process. While other machines just crush the pulp the Hurom Hu-100 follows a two step process. During the first step the machine crushes the pulp and during the second stage it extracts the maximum amount of juice possible from the pulp.

This unique process results in a higher yield and much drier pulp. The Hurom Hu-100 actually produces 50% more yield than even the best centrifugal juicers. It also retains a much higher nutritional value than any centrifugal juicer, producing minimal foam and frothing.

The Hurom Hu-100 is also remarkably easy to clean. It comes with a self-cleaning option and the only thing you need to make it work is water.

All in all, the Hurom Hu-100 combines the best features of a masticating juicer—higher yield and nutritional value—with the size and shape of a centrifugal juicer. This makes it an excellent choice for families who will be regularly be making large portions of juice.

Breville BJE200XL

This compact juicer is perfect for the small apartment. In spite of its small size it is incredibly powerful, featuring a 700 watt motor that runs at 14,000RPM. If you're seeking a juicer on a budget, this might just be the option for you. Usually sold for around $100, this is the most affordable juicer on this list and is incredibly efficient when compared to other juicers in the same price range.

The Breville BJE200XL also comes with all the right equipment for efficient juicing: stainless steel micromesh filters, titanium cutting disks, a stabilizing knife and a dual knife blade centered assembly. This allows it to maximize both yield and efficiency.

A number of technologically advanced features also serve to set the Breville BJE200XL apart from other budget models, such as an ergonomically designed chute large enough to drop entire fruits in without having to cut them up. It's also incredibly easy to clean, taking only a few minutes without the help of a dishwasher. These come together to make it easy to use as well as efficient.

The Breville BJE200XL is altogether an incredible centrifugal juicer. It produces much higher quality juice than other centrifugal juicers and is both easier to maintain and more durable than other models within the same price range. If you really want a quality juicer but you're on a tight budget the Breville BJE200XL is the ideal model for you.

Breville JE98XL

Another unusually high quality centrifugal juicer, the Breville JE98XL comes with an intensely powerful 850 watt motor. Like its more expensive cousin the Breville 800JEXL, this machine operates at two different speeds—6500 RPM and 12000 RPM. The first speed is ideal for soft vegetables and fruit and the second setting is specifically for harder vegetables.

A three inch feed chute makes it possible to stick entire fruits and vegetables into this juicer without having to slice and dice them first. Other small factors which make this machine more comfortable to use include wrapping cord storage and handles on the pulp storage unit.

The Breville JE98XL uses a Nutri Disc with stainless steel mesh filters and stainless steel blades and a patented central feed system to produce a higher yield of juice and remove far more pulp than other centrifugal juicers.

All in all, the Breville BJE98XL is an excellent juicer for somebody who really does want the highest nutrient count possible but who simply can't afford to wait around for half an hour while a masticating juicer does its job.

Super Angel 5500

The Super Angel 5500 is a twin gear machine ideal for extracting juice out of almost anything. Whether you want to make typical fruit juice or almond milk, all you have to do is push your ingredients down the machine and it will do the rest. It comes with one touch buttons for stop, start and even reverse, making it incredibly easy to use.

Unlike most other juicers, you can get a completely smooth juice on the first grind almost every time with the Super Angel 5500. It even produces completely dry pulp. Best of all, it grinds everything from grapes to peanuts with almost complete silence thanks to a high quality motor.

The Super Angel 5500 is also remarkably easy to clean despite its twin gear design. It even comes with a screen scraper and a cleaning brush to make it simple to remove any residue from the sieve. Even the gears are easy to clean with a simple rinse. Since the pulp and the juice are collected separately, this machine also eliminates the risk of leakage or accidentally mixing your pulp and your juice.

Many people will consider the cost of the Super Angel 5500 but if you're looking for a juicer with a diverse range of uses you will not be disappointed when you purchase a Super Angel 5500. While the company is not typically known for producing great juicers, this machine really is incredible and gets the job done quickly every time. With regular maintenance it can be an excellent investment for the avid juicer.

Not sure which juicer is right for you? If you think the more expensive machines sound great but you're not really sure it's worth it, try starting out with one of the cheaper models on this list to see how much you'll actually use the juicer. If you use it every day, you might want to consider an upgrade!
