Best Wheatgrass Juicers - Nutrition Trend

Best Wheatgrass Juicers

By Katy Cowley / 4 years ago

What is this wheatgrass and why is everyone raving about it?  Wheatgrass is grass from the wheat plant which you harvest when it’s about a week old, around the time it’s greenest.  The exceptionally vibrant colour comes from the high amount of chlorophyll which when consumed, increases our body’s energy levels and alkalizes our system.  It’s also chock full of vitamins and minerals.

Wheatgrass is best when freshly juiced.  You can purchase wheatgrass shoots from health stores or just grow your own. Whenever you want to enjoy a freshly-squeezed glass of wheatgrass, just bring out the juicer.  Now, you probably already have a juicer for your everyday fruits and vegetables; but it’s important to note that wheatgrass juice cannot be extracted by just any juicer.

Here’s what you need to consider when looking for a wheatgrass juicer.

Guide to Finding The Right Juicer:

Unlike the fibre from most plants and vegetables, wheatgrass’s fibre is tough and not easily crushed.  Their thin leaves need more force to be mashed completely and separated from the pulp.  Otherwise, you end up with bits of the wheatgrass getting stuck in the juicer and not enough juice to drink.

You will therefore need an electric or manual juicer designed to withstand the toughness of plants like wheatgrass. These are the masticating juicers which crush the plant and squeeze the juice out.  Centrifugal juicers don’t work on greens like wheatgrass because they only shred the plant then use a spinning motion (centrifugal force) to remove the juice.

Electric Juicers:

Electric juicers are more convenient and time-saving since you don’t have to expend a lot of effort.  Just pop in the wheatgrass and switch on the juicer.  Some users also find electric juicers more efficient in extracting more juice.

Additionally, electric juicers for wheatgrass are usually flexible and can be used for other fruits and vegetables.  However, they do cost more and are often bigger and bulkier than their manual counterparts.

Manual Juicers:

Manual juicers are preferred by people who want a smaller, more portable juicer that is also easily cleaned.  Aside from that, the main benefit of this type of juicer is the lower price compared to electric types.  Manual juicers will require more time and effort from you though. You work this juicer by rotating the crank.

TOP 9 WHEATGRASS JUICERS

1. The Omega J8006 Nutrition System

Omega is known for their high quality juicers and this model, theOmega 8006 Nutrition System constantly shows up on the list of best electric juicers.  It’s a cinch to use and the powerful motor can produce a large amount of juice even from leafy greens.  Incredibly versatile, you can use it as your daily juicer for all types of fruits and vegetables.  It’s also reasonably priced considering that it’s an electric masticating type.

2. Omega NC900HDC 6th Generation Nutrition Center Electric Juicer

Another Omega model is the Omega NC900HDC 6th Generation Nutrition Center Electric Juicer.  This machine is an upgrade of earlier J8000 models and is noticeably sturdier with a sleeker, more attractive look.

Compared to other electric juicers, the NC900HDC is fairly easy to put together and take apart, and washing the parts is not a problem.  The only major concern for the Omega juicers would be that they tend to take up space.

 3. The Green Queen Wheatgrass Juicer

The Green Queen Wheatgrass Juicer is one of the few electric juicers designed specifically for wheatgrass.  At a dimension of 7.5 x 5.5 x 12 inches, it’s smaller than most electric juicers and fits easily on any kitchen counter.

You will also find that it’s simple to use, easy to wash and no problem to clean.  It can also effectively extract a large amount of juice.

4. Nutriteam HD-7700 Low Speed Juicer

If you want a more affordable but space-saving electric juicer, a vertical slow juicer like the Nutriteam HD-7700 Low Speed Juicer is your best choice.  This electric juicer also produces maximum yield of juice at lesser time compared to other juicers.

The low speed helps preserve most of the nutrients upon juicing.   It’s perfect for everyday use since it’s also great at juicing other plants and is quite sturdy.  Our only issue would be cleaning as some users find the parts challenging to clean, and they need hand-washing.

5. Handy Pantry HJ Hurricane Stainless Steel Manual Wheatgrass Juicer

The design of the Handy Pantry HJ Hurricane Stainless Steel Manual Wheatgrass Juicer is a distinct upgrade from other manual juicers.  This should make for more juice yield in lesser time.  Made of stainless steel, it’s durable, lasts longer and also looks more attractive. It’s easy to clean by hand and can even be placed in the dishwasher.

Like most manual juicers, it’s light and can be moved around easily.  However, it’s still expected to be slower than electric juicers and the grass will need a couple of runs in the machine before you can completely extract all the juice.

6. Miracle MJ445 Stainless Steel Manual Wheatgrass Juicer

Another manual juicer with a sleek and smooth design is the Miracle MJ445 Stainless Steel Manual Wheatgrass Juicer.  Despite being sturdily built and strong, it’s very easy to clean, store or carry.

Again, since it’s a manual type don’t expect to keep getting large amounts of juice.  With its affordable price, it is still, however, a good deal and is terrific for juicing wheatgrass, but not other fruits or vegetables.

7. Lexen Healthy Juicer GP27 – Manual Wheatgrass Juicer

One of the smallest manual juicers, the Lexen Healthy Juicer GP27 – Manual Wheatgrass Juicer, is also one of the most budget-friendly.  It’s durable, very portable, easy to put together and disassemble, and can be cleaned quickly.

One drawback though is that because of its size, it can be challenging to use at times and you may not get as much juice as you’d like.

8. Paderno World Cuisine Manual Juicer

If you’re looking for a really simple juicer at a low price, the Paderno World Cuisine Manual Juicer is a good option.  This manual juicer is fun and easy to use.  Washing the parts afterward is also quick and fuss-free.  Though it may not look strong, it’s actually pretty sturdy and can juice other plants aside from wheatgrass.  You will need to give your wheatgrass a couple more rounds in this machine though before you can get a fair amount of juice.

9. Tribest Z-Star Z-510 Manual Juicer

The Tribest Z-Star Z-510 Manual Juicer certainly has a good-looking design.  It’s also small but sturdy and light enough to carry around if you’re traveling.  It works well with wheatgrass and other leafy greens but not so well with fruits.

Like other manual juicers, you’ll need more effort to get the amount of juice you want.  Cleaning is mostly easy except for some troublesome parts like the screen.

Conclusion

Including wheatgrass in your diet is a wonderful supplement to your nutritional needs.  And once you’ve got your chosen juicer, you can havea glass of wheatgrass juice anytime.

A word of caution though when consuming wheatgrass: Drinking too much of it daily can have a cleansing effect.  Other than that, enjoy juicing!
